Ledger Stax

The Ledger Stax is a $399 statement piece. That curved e-ink display is genuinely beautiful. You can customize what it shows when locked. It looks great on a desk. None of that changes the fact that it runs the same closed-source firmware with Recover capability. Style cannot fix substance.

Multi-Coin Warning

Every altcoin this wallet supports is code that could compromise your bitcoin keys. More tokens means more attack surface. The firmware is bloated with logic for assets that most users don't need.

Where It Falls Short

Absurd Price

$399 for a device with all of Ledger's trust problems is indefensible.

All Ledger Problems

Closed-source, Recover, data breach history. Premium price doesn't fix trust.

Delayed Launch

Massive delays showed execution problems.

Form Over Function

Pretty design doesn't compensate for security concerns.

Security Incidents & Controversies

Every company makes mistakes. What matters is how severe they are and what they reveal about priorities. Here's Ledger's track record:

Massive DelaysLaunchminor

Announced in late 2022, didn't ship until mid 2024. Pre-orders waited over a year.

Bottom Line

From a hardware standpoint, the Ledger Stax is fine. The issue is what runs on that hardware.

It has e-ink and wireless. Some people will like that.

Not Recommended

I can't recommend this for serious bitcoin storage. The multi-coin firmware introduces unnecessary risk. For $399 or less, you can get a focused Bitcoin-only wallet that does the job better.

Bitcoin-only, dummy.

I'm not going to help you buy a multi-coin wallet. Check out my Bitcoin-only recommendations instead.
