The Blockstream Jade is a $79 Bitcoin-only hardware wallet with a built-in camera, so you can sign transactions fully air-gapped by scanning QR codes. It uses the same virtual secure element as the $149 Jade Plus and runs open-source firmware. I rate it 9.3/10 and it is my pick for a first hardware wallet. The Jade Plus adds a bigger screen and costs more.
The Jade is Blockstream's original hardware wallet, and it still sells for $79. It has a small color screen, a built-in camera, and three ways to connect: QR codes, USB-C, and Bluetooth. Use the camera and your keys never touch a connected device. Under $80, only the DIY SeedSigner and Krux match its air-gapped signing, Bitcoin-only firmware, and open-source code, and the Jade arrives assembled with a battery and a case.
The Jade runs Bitcoin-only firmware. It also handles Liquid, Blockstream's Bitcoin sidechain, but no altcoins. That keeps the code small enough to audit, which is the reason to buy a Bitcoin-only device in the first place.
Blockstream Jade price in 2026
The Jade's list price is $79. In September 2026 Blockstream's store was selling it for $67 in several colors. The Jade Plus costs $149 in plastic and $169 in metal, so the original Jade is roughly half the price for the same security model.
Buy it directly from Blockstream's store rather than a third-party marketplace. A device bought straight from the maker has not passed through anyone else's hands.
How the Jade keeps your keys safe
Most hardware wallets store your keys in a secure element chip whose code you cannot inspect. The Jade uses a virtual secure element instead: your PIN unlocks a secret that is split between the device and a blind oracle server. The oracle never sees your keys or your PIN, and anyone who steals the device cannot brute-force the PIN offline.
Blockstream runs the default oracle, and you can run your own. The firmware is open source and the device is built on an ESP32 chip, so the whole design can be checked by anyone.
Air-gapped with the built-in camera
In QR mode the Jade never connects to your phone or computer. Your wallet app shows the unsigned transaction as a QR code, the Jade scans it with its camera, you check the details on the Jade's screen, and the Jade shows the signed transaction back as a QR code. The Jade also reads SeedQR backups, so you can restore a wallet without typing your seed words.
If you prefer a cable or Bluetooth, the Jade supports both. Blockstream also publishes a radio-disabled firmware that turns Bluetooth off completely.
Jade vs Jade Plus
Both devices use the same security model and firmware. The Jade Plus has a larger 1.9-inch screen, an upgraded camera, and better buttons, and it costs $149 or more. The original Jade has a 1.14-inch screen and costs $79.
Buy the Jade Plus if you will use it every week and want a nicer screen. Buy the Jade if price matters or you need a second signing device.

The Jade works with the Blockstream app on iOS, Android, and desktop, plus Sparrow, Electrum, Nunchuk, BlueWallet, and Specter. Sparrow over QR is the setup I recommend for an air-gapped wallet on a computer.

My Final Take
The Jade is the best value in Bitcoin hardware wallets. For $79 you get a built-in camera for air-gapped QR signing, open-source firmware, and the same security model as the Jade Plus. The tradeoffs are a small 1.14-inch screen and a plastic body. If you are buying your first hardware wallet, or a backup device for a multisig setup, this is the one I would buy.
