KeepKey Review
The forgotten hardware wallet

KeepKey is a hardware wallet frozen in time. ShapeShift abandoned active development when they became a DAO. The big screen still works. The firmware is still open-source. But don't expect updates, bug fixes, or support. It's a clearance item being sold until inventory runs out.
Multi-Coin Warning
Every altcoin this wallet supports is code that could compromise your bitcoin keys. More tokens means more attack surface. The firmware is bloated with logic for assets that most users don't need.
Security Architecture
Standard secure element design. Essentially abandoned development.

The Verdict
From a hardware standpoint, the KeepKey is fine. The issue is what runs on that hardware.
It has large screen and shapeshift. Some people will like that.
Not Recommended
Multi-coin wallets aren't what I recommend for bitcoin storage. More code means more risk. At $49, you can get a Bitcoin-only device with a smaller, more auditable firmware.
Bitcoin-only, dummy.
