Best Capsule Seed Storage in 2026
Letter tiles inside a sealed metal container. Compact, tamper-evident, and easy to conceal.
The Blockstream Capsule ($99) is the best capsule seed backup: letter tiles sealed in a screw-top tube of 316 stainless steel. The Cryptosteel Capsule Solo ($99) is the proven alternative, sold since 2015. CypherWheel ($250) is the most tamper-evident option but costs more than twice as much.

3 productsHow a capsule works
A capsule holds a stack of letter tiles on a rod inside a sealed metal tube. You slide the tiles on in order, four letters per word, and screw the cap shut. The tube keeps water and debris out and keeps the tiles in place.
Capsules are small enough to hide almost anywhere. The tradeoff is the one every tile system has: if the tube is crushed or opened, the tiles can come off in the wrong order.
Frequently asked questions
Is a capsule better than a metal plate?
A capsule is smaller and faster to set up. A stamped or punched plate is permanent. Choose a plate if you want marks that can never move, a capsule if size and speed matter more.
Can capsule tiles fall out?
Not while the capsule is sealed. If the tube is opened or badly damaged, tiles can slide off the rod, so mark the first word and check the order when you restore.
